un(an)kN-O-wn
un(an)kN-O-wn studies diaspora experiences and a sense of belonging situated within the mind of experimental music, leading 6 interviews with those who work with sound, and whose artistic practice must, in some ways, have been influenced by division, colonisation, land, resource, imperialism, language, religion, family, culture, and beyond.
Following an exhibition, book publication, and workshop last year that examined my Korean roots and historical narratives, I became interested in how sound experimentation can be used as knowledge and identity. un(an)kN-O-wn discusses these areas of inquiry with Baly Nguyễn, Bonnie Han Jones, Una Lee, Lisa Ullen, Khabat Abas, and Yara Mekawei.
- Does sound support the understanding of realities?
- Can human ecology be made sense of by sonic experiments?
- Does music-making ever rethink nationhood, identity, or intersectionality?
- Can we learn commonalities and differences in order to create a pluriversality - a world where diverse worlds fit?
